PHOTO EXPEDITION | BIG CYPRESS /EVERGLADES | FEBRUARY 2023

Basic Overview:

Join me for three days and two nights of adventure and photo ops in the wilds of south Florida! I will guide you to locations where you can see and photograph a vast array of native wildlife including alligators, snakes, birds, deer, insects, spiders, and the beautiful and elusive Liguus Tree Snails. Flowers and exotic plant life abound in the region. Orchids, air plants, ferns, and more are easily accessible with any camera and the multitude of wildflowers and insects there make it a macro lover's paradise. Landscape photographers will enjoy the contrasts of dense swamps and wide open vistas. The open spaces make for great sunrise and sunset views and provide ample opportunities for unobstructed night sky photography.

I am familiar with lots of locations in Big Cypress, Fakahatchee Strand, and the Everglades that will afford photo ops of all types with little or no hiking required in most places and I also know of some very interesting spots to take you to if you feel like stretching your legs in some easy, flat terrain.

This is an inexpensive opportunity to mix it up creatively photographing wildlife, landscapes, plants, flowers, sunrises, sunsets, macro subjects, and starry night skies. Guide fees are only $450 per person for the three day, two night photo adventure. Please contact me directly if you have any questions or would like to reserve any spots.

Basic Logistics:

We will start the expedition with a sunrise shoot on day 1. We will shoot until our lunch break, check-in at our respective accommodations, do some afternoon shooting, and then will go out again in the evening after dinner if the skies are clear. We will stay overnight that night and start with a sunrise shoot again on day 2 followed by a day of shooting in the field again. The 2nd night will be a fallback for night sky photography if the first night is too cloudy. On day 3 we can sleep in and after checkout from our accommodations we will make a trip to Corkscrew Swamp Preserve on the way home.

Attendees are responsible for their own transportation to and from all locations. I plan on bringing my large truck that has an oversize bed and hydraulic liftgate that attendees can ride in "safari style" if they wish at certain remote locations while scouting for wildlife and other photo ops. Attendees are responsible for their own lodging and food.

I will be based out of Everglades City due to its proximity to the locations that I will be going to. There are a few 2 and 3 star rated motels there and I plan on booking a room for myself at one of them. There is nothing in the way of "resort" accommodations there however. There are several campgrounds in the surrounding area that accommodate recreational vehicles, travel trailer/campers, tents, and hammocks if you are so inclined. I have camped in several different locations there in the past myself and have always enjoyed the experience. There are a couple of decent restaurants and some cafes as well as a small grocery store in Everglades City and nearby Chokoloskee. We can make dinner reservations for all who wish at one of the nicer places to eat on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
